Ever since the last high school swim season, Peter has had some workouts that put his heart rate over 200 and sometimes as close as 210. Although it never seemed to effect his performance, it was a little concerning going into this year's cross-country season. His pediatrician ordered a exercise stress test and echo cardio exam. Everything looked good on his EKG and his ultrasound. The next piece was the exercise stress test which he passed with flying colors. It was pretty spectacular watching him run his heart out on that treadmill as the speed and incline increased. Turns out his VO2 max is 65!!! That is at the superior level for someone his age. The only thing the doctor noticed was his oxygen output was a little restricted when blowing out which meant that he could benefit from an inhaler before racing or swimming really hard. We are so grateful that there was nothing wrong with his heart and comforted to know that his HR going above 200 is ok.
