MADELINE AND BRIX
MAY 4, 2021
Picture
We watched little Brix one day and Madeline was so cute with him. He was not very happy when his momma left but Madeline just got on the floor and started playing with him and for a time, he forgot about being sad. Madeline still talks about the day she played with Brix.

MAKING THE PROM CORSAGE AND BOUTONNIERE

I was having such a hard time finding a pretty corsage for Peter’s prom date, so I decided to make both the corsage and the boutonniere. After watching a few videos and messing up a few times, I finally made something magical.

MADELINE GETS A MASSAGE

Mike had the massage table out to give me a massage and Madeline climbed right up one night and said, “It’s my turn for a massage.” Mike gently rubbed her feet with lotion, and she was in heaven.

MOTHER'S DAY DINNER

Mike always makes me the best Mother’s Day dinner. This year he did simple and healthy and made a Caesar salad and tuna steak. It was delicious.

SARA'S FUN HAIR

I took my halo into Lexi to have her fix some of the coloring. After my haircut she put it on and styled my hair with the halo in. It was fun to walk in with short hair and walk out with long hair.

Madeline’s new swimsuit arrived from Albion Fit and it was so cute on her. She wore it all afternoon.

FAKE LASH ORDEAL

RIGHT AFTER THEY WERE FINISHED and EYES ONE DAY LATER (totally infected)
I decided to try lash extensions after talking with some of my friends who had done it before. Right after I loved the way they looked but by the next day I was regretting what I had done. My eyes got red and poufy, and it was clear that I was allergic to the glue that was used. I spent the next couple of days in pure agony until I could go in to have someone else take them off. I will never do that again.

Madeline loves to go outside to ride her bike. She got grandma and grandpa to go with her. They loved watching her ride her new bike.

Peter's Swim Season

5/26/2021

This was definitely an interesting swim season for Peter this year. With the addition of a new coach, things were just not the same as in previous years. Peter found himself as team captain appointed by his teammates. Those boys really needed Peter's optimism and counsel while they navigated a difficult coach who was a little rough around the edges. Peter spent most of his season swimming in the long-distance events such as the 200 and 500 freestyle and rotated between the 200-freestyle relay and 400 freestyle relay. He also swam the 100 fly a few times and did quite well. Peter was such a hard worker in practice and for the first month of swim he was loving being back in the water with his teammates. The very first meet his goggles popped right off during his 500-freestyle due to a tight cap and more hair under that cap than in previous years. After the race his coach didn’t have anything nice to say and it was then that I knew that this coach would be a problem during the rest of the season. I was not impressed with the coach and the way he handled talking to his athletes, but Peter quickly learned that he needed to be respectful anyways. Peter PR’d in every event this season except for the 500 free. He was only a second away from getting his best time in that event. He dropped almost 10 seconds in the 100 fly and 5 seconds in the 200 free from his last high school season during his sophomore year. Peter wasn’t able to finish out his season since he started his new full-time job the day after graduation but at least he was able to get in 5 meets.

Peter's HS graduation

5/25/2021

We were so excited to celebrate Peter’s big day with him and so happy that we were able to have the grandparents attend. Each family got to have 8 guests and since we are a big family, I was able to secure an additional ticket from a friend so both sets of grandparents could be there. I was so blessed to be able to be at graduation since I woke up sick that morning and wasn’t sure I was going to make it. The ceremony was held at D20 Stadium, and they did a really nice job. I loved watching Peter get his diploma and then congratulate all of his friends afterwards. It was fun watching him be goofy and silly with his friends. After graduation everyone headed over to Flying Horse for a graduation lunch and then he and Grandpa Al headed on a walk at Fox Run Park in the afternoon. The day just couldn’t have been more perfect for Peter.

Peter's GradUATION Party

5/24/2021

We spent the afternoon before graduation hosting a grad party for Peter with all of his close friends. We had both Pine Creek themed and University of Utah themed treats. It was a great way to say good bye to Pine Creek HS and hello to the University life. We had a memorabilia table with some of Peter's achievements and awards, his t-shirt quilt, letter jacket and photos from every school year. It was fun to see how much he changed over the years. The biggest change, however, was between junior and senior year where he really started looking like a young man who was ready to enter adulthood. I'm so glad that Peter enjoyed spending some time with his friends celebrating the end of their high school life together.

Exercise in May

5/24/2021

May is always an unpredictable month when it comes to exercising outside. For the most part the weather was pretty good, but we did have the random snowstorm and chilly, windy weather. Still, Mike and I were able to go on an awesome long ride on the Cherry Creek Trail in Denver towards Cheery Creek State Park. We biked all the way to the park from downtown and around the lake. It was so nice to bike somewhere other than our typical ride on the Cottonwood Creek trail. I headed to the pool once which was nice and spent some time on my mountain bike. I enjoyed some more Garden runs and a fun run with some really fast girlies in my running group.

Peter's Senior Prom

5/8/2021

I was so excited that Peter was able to have a Senior Prom and even more excited that he actually asked someone to be his date. It was such a great way to end such an unusual school year. He asked his friend Lauren to go to Prom with him. He met her in some of his classes this year. Turns out that she was the valedictorian, but that didn't intimidate him at all. I ended up making the corsage and boutonniere for Peter and Lauren. It was fun to be able to take photos of them and some of their friends before they left for Prom. A bunch of the kids came over afterwards to our house and made s'mores in our fire pit under a softly lit gazebo. I could hear them laugh and giggle from my bedroom window and all it did was bring joy to my soul!

Peter and Emma's Jazz Concert

5/6/2021

With pretty much all the concerts being canceled this school year due to all the COVID restrictions, I was so excited that the kids high school decided to hold all spring concerts outside. Emma and Peter had their Jazz Concert out on the balcony on the side of the school and it was amazing. Emma played with the beginning Jazz Band and Peter played both trumpet and piano with the Advanced Jazz Band. Both kids did an amazing job. It was fun to be able to sit on the grass outside and enjoy the fruits of their labors from practicing all year both at home on Microsoft Teams and in school when they went back to hybrid learning.
