Field day at the elementary school is one of the most anticipated days at the end of the school year. With Colorado’s crazy spring weather, we never quite know what the weather will be like but fortunately the schools have gotten smart and planned for back up days. This year we had another sunny day of fun on the upper fields. The older kids used to have field day on the lower fields but now they utilize the upper fields for field day. They have really upped their game with the fun little stations the kids can participate in. The kids rotate through stations, relay races, tug-a-war, and the popsicle station. I showed up right at the end of the relay races but was able to watch her during her turn at the different stations. She loved the obstacle running course, the three- legged race with her friends, the tire race, and the bouncy balls. Then their class headed up to the tug-of-war. I loved watching her determination to help her class win. While the kids were waiting for their turn I loved watching her play hand games with her friends. I remember doing those same hand games when I was her age. Some things kids do are just timeless. Of all the things I watched Madeline do, I loved watching her excitement and joy just to be active and with her friends.
Field day is one of them most exciting days for any elementary schooler during the end of the school year. With all of the frequent rain we have been having the field day was postponed twice and it ended up falling on the last day of school. I loved watching Madeline and her friends rotate through all of the different stations. She seemed to love the obstacle course the best, the three-legged race, and the big bouncy ball station. After the rotating stations, all of the first graders headed over to the running relay station. I loved watching Madeline run her little heart out. She was so fierce and determined during the hurdle relay and it was amazing to see how much height she got over those hurdles. Lastly, the kids competed against the other first grade classes in the tug-o-war station. Unfortunately, Madeline’s class didn’t win their first one but that was expected as their class was a little bit smaller in size. Still, she had so much fun!
Abby had her very last elementary school field day and had a blast running in the relays with her friends and classmates. The relays consisted of running only, running and jumping over tiny hurdles, and running while pushing a tire. The tire race was hilarious to watch. Although she had a great time doing the relay racing, the highlight of every field day is definitely the tug of war. Each grade has their own competitions. Abby’s 5th grade class won the tug of war twice and lost three times. Oh, how I will miss watching Abby have fun at field day with her friends.
It is always so much fun to pop over to the elementary school to see a little bit of field day. My favorite events to watch are the tug-o-war and the dashes and relays. This year Mike was working close to home so he was able to come and see Abby at the tug-o-war with Madeline and me. Abby’s class won a few times but it was the other class with the really big kids that ended up winning the entire thing. Madeline and I came back after lunch to watch Abby run in a few of the dashes. Abby had so much fun showing off Madeline to her friends and just being social.
