It was raining today so instead of an outside excursion in the heart of Houston we decided to meet Greg and Ruby at the Houston Museum of Natural Science. It was so fun to see Uncle Greg again and to meet his sweet girlfriend Ruby. We started our tour of the museum by watching Andrew ride in the gyro machine. He was the only one of the kids tall enough to do it. Boy was he dizzy afterwards. We spent the rest of our time exploring the many fun exhibits, watching Walking with Dinosaurs in 3D, and took a little break for lunch at a yummy Mexican restaurant two blocks away called Bodegas. Our favorite exhibits were the Hall of Paleontology, the Hall of Gems and Minerals, the Hall of African Wildlife, and the Weiss Energy Hall. In the African wildlife section the kids were all adamant that I have my picture taken with the monkey because they know how much I love monkeys after my encounter with the crazy monkey in Japan. In the Weiss Energy Hall we learned the entire process of how oil and natural gas are formed to provide us energy. We actually got to "ride" in the Geovator which took us on a simulated trip to the bottom of an oil well to experience the sights and sounds of oil production. The Geovator was definitely a highlight for all of us.
After we were finished exploring the museum we headed back down to where we were staying so we could play glow in the dark mini golf and eat at Rudy's for dinner with Greg and Ruby. It was a great way to spend our rainy day in Houston.
